Polyurethane Wheels – Wear 5‑10x Longer Than Rubber
If you want quiet rolling, zero black marks, and oil resistance – but rubber wears too fast and nylon is too loud – get polyurethane. We are ZHXPRECI, a direct China manufacturer. We formulate our own PU (polyester or polyether) and cast every wheel in‑house. Hardness from Shore A 65 to Shore D 65. Loads from 50kg to 5,000kg+ per wheel. Diameters 50‑500mm. ESD‑safe and FDA grades available. Our PU wheels last years, not months. Send us your current wheel specs or a photo. We will suggest the right hardness and compound within 24 hours. Prototypes in 7‑14 days.

Polyurethane Wheels | The Balanced Choice for Wear Life, Quiet Rolling & Floor Protection
Polyurethane (PU) wheels have become the standard for material handling equipment, AGVs, medical devices, and industrial carts. Why? Because PU offers the best compromise between rubber and nylon – it wears longer than rubber, it is quieter than nylon, and it protects floors better than both when formulated correctly.
We are ZHXPRECI, a manufacturer in Guangdong that makes PU wheels from raw prepolymer. We do not buy ready‑made PU sheets or blanks. We cast and mold our own polyurethane, which means we control everything from hardness to color to dynamic performance. This is not true for many wheel suppliers – they buy cheap PU from traders and rebrand it. We make it ourselves.
What are the real advantages of a good PU wheel? Let me list them based on what our customers actually see in daily use.
- Wear life – In a typical warehouse cart running 8 hours a day with a 300kg load, a rubber wheel may lose 2mm of tread in three months. A good PU wheel loses about 1mm in a year. That is 5 to 10 times longer life.
- No black marks – Many so‑called non‑marking rubber wheels still leave dark streaks on epoxy floors. Our PU wheels are truly non‑marking. We use light‑colored or clear polyurethane compounds that do not transfer color.
- Quiet operation – PU has internal damping. At the same load and speed, a PU wheel is at least 10 dB quieter than a nylon wheel. That matters in hospitals, libraries, offices, and any noise‑sensitive area.
- Oil and chemical resistance – Standard rubber swells when exposed to hydraulic oil or degreasers. PU (especially polyester‑based) resists oil very well. We have wheels running on automotive assembly lines that see oil every day and still perform for years.
- Wide temperature range – Standard PU works from -40°C to +80°C continuously. For cold storage warehouses, we use a polyether formulation that stays flexible at -40°C without cracking. For hot environments, we can go up to 120°C for short periods.
When should you NOT use PU wheels? Three cases. First, if your load exceeds about 5,000kg per wheel – then go with nylon or steel. Second, if you need extreme chemical resistance (strong acids or bases) – then PTFE or stainless steel is safer. Third, if your budget is very tight and usage is light – rubber will cost less upfront. For everything else, PU is often the sweet spot.
Hardness selection – what does it mean? We offer Shore A 65 to Shore D 65. Soft (A70‑80) – best for hospitals and cleanrooms, maximum floor protection but lower load capacity. Medium (A85‑95) – the workhorse range for logistics, manufacturing, general industry. Load capacity per wheel from 100kg to 1,500kg depending on diameter. Hard (D60+) – for heavy equipment, loads up to 5,000kg+, but a bit noisier. Pick based on your load and floor sensitivity.
Polyester vs polyether – which is right for you? This is a common point of confusion. Use polyester‑based PU if your wheels contact oils (hydraulic, motor, cutting oils) or if you operate in dry indoor environments. Polyester has higher tear strength and better oil resistance. Use polyether‑based PU if your wheels are used outdoors, in cold storage, or in wet conditions that require frequent washdowns (food processing, beverage plants). Polyether resists hydrolysis – it will not crack from moisture. Not sure? Tell me your environment and I will choose for you.
Cores and bearings – Cores can be nylon/polyamide (light, corrosion‑free), aluminum (good heat dissipation for higher speeds), cast iron (maximum strength), or pressed steel (cost‑effective). For bearings, we recommend sealed precision ball bearings for most applications – they are low maintenance. For very slow manual carts, plain bushings save money. For AGVs that run faster than 4 km/h, use high‑precision bearings and ask us about dynamic balancing.
Real customer example – not a fake story – A European logistics integrator was using a famous German PU wheel on their AGVs. Lead time was four months and price was high. They gave us a sample. We reverse‑engineered it using a polyether formulation. Our prototype had 8% lower rolling resistance and comparable wear. Now they order a full container every month. Lead time: 35 days. Cost: 40% less. Similar stories from clients in North America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
What can we customize? Diameter from 50mm to 500mm. Tread width from 20mm to 120mm. Any color you want – we can match your brand (common colors: red, blue, gray, white, yellow). Mounting dimensions – send a drawing, we follow it exactly. Special properties: ESD‑safe (surface resistance 10^6‑10^9 ohms), FDA‑compliant for food contact, antimicrobial for medical use. Just ask.
Quality and delivery – We are ISO 9001:2015 certified. In‑house lab tests every batch for hardness, dimensions, adhesion, and dynamic load. Third‑party testing (REACH, RoHS, FDA) available on request. Annual production capacity over 2 million wheels. Typical lead time for samples: 7‑14 days. Mass production: 30‑45 days. Expedite options available. Ship from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ningbo, or Qingdao.
How to start? Send us a photo of your current wheel, or measure the diameter, tread width, bore size, and load. Tell us your floor type and operating environment. We will reply within 24 hours with a recommended formulation and a rough quote. You can order a small sample batch to test. No charge for mold tooling unless the design is extremely complex – you just pay for materials and shipping for the first samples.
